Yoric Kasimer Raynard Saint QMJ2oiX

Name: Yoric Kasimer Raynard Saint
Epithet: The Silver Sage
Age: 45
Gender: Male
Home Town Fishman Island
Race: Half Fishman (lionfish)
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Affiliation: Marine
Occupation: Tactician:

A tactician does not rely on instinct or bloodlust in battle, but rather their own disciplined skills and those of others. Although trained in varied combat forms for versatility's sake in a changing battlefield, a tactician's greatest strength lies in their proficient analysis of situations and people. In quick order they may gain an understanding of who they are allied with or whom they face to better benefit from or capitalize on the strengths or weaknesses of themselves and others.

Yoric Kasimer Raynard Saint FdMJ5kQ

Appearance:

Yoric has a strong bearing to him. Wide shoulders, and a toned body, he shows little sign of his age. His face alone shows some weariness: creases and crows feet. He has a thick, dark moustache which raises at it's ends. This coupled with his pronounced eyebrows can give him a very stern look, but he often holds a lighthearted expression when not in stressful situations. He has a large scar stretching from beneath his left eye, across his cheek ending at his lip,but reappearing on his chin slightly (one reason he grew the mustache). He also bears a plethora of scars and old wounds from his youth on his back and two notable ones on either wrist. Yoric's hair is black with various streaks of silver-grey throughout. He has surprisingly lengthy hair, which he keeps slicked back for a more stately demeanour. From time to time, when stressed, a rogue strand of hair will dangle across his face (much to his frustration).
As a fishman hybrid he still bears some of the trademark physicality of his heritage. The lionfish elements present on him are a series of long, thin spines connected with something of skin mesh between them. These projections form a kind of jagged forest of wings on his back. Like many fishmen he has control over these extra appendages. In most situations (especially public ones) he will wrap his torso in them: the lower ones embrace his waist while the longer, higher ones fold over his shoulders. A short pair are found at he end of either elbow as well. To match the spines he is also partially decorated with the darkened stripe pattern of the species (easier to look up the animal than describe it). Thankfully for Yoric these traits can be made quite inconspicuous, hidden by his clothes or passed off as a series of tattoos. As is expected he has a set of gills present on his lower shoulders.
As for actual attire, Yoric generally sports a white dress shirt with an ascot of varying patterns  beneath a double-breasted vest. The vest is generally dark brown or black, the collar of which is composed of a sea-king leather (looks like crocodile leather). His pants too are generally dark brown or black and dressy held up by a pair of connected suspenders. Hanging from one of the vests buttons can be seen a dangling chain tracing back to the exquisite pocket watch he stores in said vest. Notably, Yoric may be the only Marine in history who actually wears his white overcoat as a coat, rather than as a cape over his shoulders. He is also commonly found to be wearing a pair of dark, pince-nez glasses to cover his eyes (armless glasses, which cling to the bridge of the nose instead). Generally his casual attire looks very similar to his dress/work attire.

Hair Color: Black and silver
Eye Color:  Red and Blue (hetero-chromia)
Skin Tone: Tanned
Height: 6' 4”
Weight: 235 lb.s
Tattoo: He bears both a tattoo of the 'Hoof of the Flying Dragon' on his left shoulder and the symbol of the Sun Pirates on the corresponding shoulder. These represent the dichotomy of control and freedom, power and weakness. As well as the connection between highborn and low. Beneath his right arm is a series of numbers of unknown origin and purpose. All his symbols are in black ink.

Yoric Kasimer Raynard Saint YLoLSiV

Personality/Background:

Yoric's youth was a long string of very unfortunate events, they made him the man he is today, but nonetheless, unfortunate. He considers Fishman Island his home (although not if directly questioned) as it was his birthplace. The tales of the island which pass as whispers on the wind speak of a mythical land, floating on the precipice between reality and luscious fantasy, but the rumours above the sea's surface are merely a mask placed over the isle, a tall-tale. The kingdom is divided between the rich and beautiful and the rotting underbelly. Yoric was sadly a part of the latter. As many pirates sought their fame, fortune and adventures on the quintessential Grand Line, they nearly all came to a bottleneck at Fishman Island-a necessary stepping stone on each journey. Yoric's father was one such scoundrel. In the maelstrom which led up to Whitebeard's protection it was not uncommon for the visiting pirates to either kidnap residents to sell into slavery or simply have 'their way' with. In this vein of behavior his father fell- taking himself a fishwife. His unbridled venture complete, his father departed again to the New World.
His mother had been an upstanding figure in Gyoverly Hills, but once it was discovered that she bore a human's child (even unwillingly) she was rejected and ostracized-expelled from her home to live in the lowest rungs of the society: The Fishman District. Upon his birth he only bore minor traits of the islands inhabitants and was easily recognized as partially human. Now, the hatred for humanity ran deeply in that district and they were much more expressive with their disdain for him. He was subjected to near constant bullying, violence and harassment as he grew. He was seen as a manifestation of the human tyranny they faced and was the perfect, convenient outlet for their rage. This was the foundation for his introversion. He would avoid confrontation where he could and head into wilderness to be alone. Yoric did meet with the local wildlife and made the only friendly relationships of his youth with them in the Sea Forest. His relationship with his mother was quite strained, like the others. She fought with her natural maternal instincts to take care of him and the revulsion she had for his other parent. As he aged Yoric grew more and more to resemble his father causing more and more grief to his mother. This came to the point that she mistook his desire for a physical connection as the aggression she once suffered from and she struck first: leaving him with the hateful scar he bears to this day. Knowing even his home was no longer hospitable- he fled. He lived a fearful and secretive life, homeless on the island, trying his best to avoid contact with others. One thing he took solace in was spying on and studying the practices at the Fishmen Martial Arts Dojo. He was at least intent on being able defend himself should anyone wish further harm on him.
In his lonely wandering of the island, regularly exhausted and malnourished he was a prime candidate for the selectors from the 'Public Employment Security Office' and was subsequently ripped from the only home he'd ever known to a strange and somehow more wretched place. Being recognized as a hybrid of human and fishman he was considered a rarer commodity and was sold for the combined prices of either ware to a cruel and covetous Tenryuubito. Forced into bloody pit-fights with other slaves, put through gruelling work regiments and relentless torture of all kinds, Yoric was growing to realize just why he was hated so much in his home. While hatred would normally fester in any who underwent what he did, he did not so much hate his masters as much as the system he was placed in. He saw at least some value in the ceaseless  toils which hardened him and his character. Yoric had experienced the two polar lifestyles of the world. He did not pity his position, or see one side as right or wrong, it was that kind of duality of belief which caused such suffering to human and fishman, noble and slave  and he was set on not falling into that foolish mindset. If anything, his harrowing times as a slave showed him the very venue from which real change could take place. He witnessed every whim and wish of his masters met without question- it was there at the summit of the Red Line and the glorious, Holy Land that he had clarity of his vision. It was only through the established system's hierarchy that he could make true change. Yoric's revelation was given a serendipitous response by the legendary assault on Mariejois by Fisher Tiger himself. In this unparalleled event he found a means of escape in the following turbulence.
After escaping the capital he was finally free, he was his own man and he was set on reestablishing himself. If his arduous life had done anything for him it had forged his vast willpower. Able to travel where he wished and do what he wished Yoric decided to join the greatest engine of action in the world: the Marines. Just prior to entering the forces he realized he needed a proper name. Up to this point he was nothing more than a nameless mistake or object, he would take his first step to independence by choosing his own name. While it was generally unpleasant he had some positive, formative times at his birthplace, so part of his inspiration came from there. There he was oft addressed with “You're..” followed by crudities or slander: he would adopt and repurpose this. The new concept of “Your” came to be understood. He now possessed things, he had opinions, he had his own life; all of these things he was ecstatic to consider “Yours”. That was the inspiration for his first name, his last was from his his unwitting ex-masters. “Saint” as many of them were undeservedly called was the name he took as a symbol for his striving for their power as well as his greatly desired new world order which would look quite saint-like in comparison to theirs.
Yoric was absolutely determined to enter the Navy and would let nothing get in his way. He went to great lengths to hide his heritage (as it had been his downfall before). He ensured to never have his whole body seen by other troops (a difficult task indeed) and even severed the indicative webbing between his digits. All this aside it was amongst the ranks of the Marines that Yoric first truly felt 'at home' and accepted. As a member of something greater than themselves, one was not judged based on who they were or where they were from, as such he was quite comfortable blending in with the troops early on. Patient to wait for his gradual rise to power, he had already waited plenty, but now he had made actual progress. While he sees underlings as an invaluable tool in his ascension, he recognizes their individuality and personal worth. The power given to members of the Marines will hopefully not corrupt his initial intentions for change and make him into the tyrannical oppressor that he had once been beneath.
Yoric is a logical, thoughtful and patient man. He prefers to give great thought to what he says before he says it and is generally quite pensive. Yoric will rely on others in part, but will always have a backup in the event things do not progress as hoped. In these cases he is also prepared to take action himself; he is confident in himself, but also not arrogant. He judges people by their actions  (words are so often false),but is not the most trusting of people in general. Yoric does not ascribe to absolute justice as many famous Marines have come to, the world not being divided into good and evil, pirates and Marines. Rather than limit himself with that polarizing mindset, Yoric prefers to see the bigger picture. If dealing with and assisting pirates in one instance will allow greater progress for his vision or what he sees as a greater good, then he will surely do so.

Likes:

Rituals- A very particular man, Yoric has his regular habits and rituals he adheres too. Simple day-to -day behaviors which offer him a respite from a chaotic world. While he is suitably comfortable in hectic circumstances, he is somewhat anal when his regular schedule is in jeopardy.
Subordinates- One of his favorite aspects of the Marines is the seemingly infinite numbers of underlings available. Having little control over his fate in his youth, he relishes being able to command and control others. This is not typically a tyrannical rule, but providing guidance for those mislead.
Isolation- Seeing himself as more of an introvert, when not commanding troops, he recuperates by spending time alone. Reading, playing an instrument, or simply pondering;he enjoys his own thoughts and the peace of being alone with them.
Plans- While there is a certain thrill to engaging with and adapting to unexpected situations, Yoric thrives in planning many moves ahead and relishes the opportunity to prepare and enact strategies beforehand.
Manners- In a world so populated by haphazard pirates, it goes a long way to know one's amenities. To express some form of class and culture sets them apart from the chaotic masses. Civility is man's greatest gift.

Dislikes:

Rebellion- Yoric is an orderly man; he sees a way things ought to be done and if they are not upheld, or worse, openly resisted, then persuasion will be required in one way or another.
Disrespect- There is hierarchy which applies to everyone. One is meant to recognize their betters and treat them as such. Respect comes from power and accomplishment, if one has not earned they position then they are not deserving of his respect. Admittedly Yoric will offer a hospitality to civilians and even lowly criminals for the sake of accomplishing a greater cause (but when push comes to shove the generous respect he offers will run dry).
Parties- Seen as a frivolous activity, with little practical purpose. Small celebrations are one thing, but excessive festivities and drinking leads to susceptibility and poor decisions. He doesn't care much for what people think of him and does not require their admiration or bonding. His preference is to keep his bearings and faculties sharp and about him.

Motivations:

From the humblest of beginnings, Yoric wishes to earn a place at the summit of the world. His prime motivation for joining the Marines was to eventually become the Commander-in-Chief. With this rank he would hold the most sway over the global power that is the Marines, as well as the infamy of the Shichibukai at his disposal and having the unparalleled intel supplied by the ubiquitous Cipher Pols. With this rank he would have the vast control he so desires, and still be able to actively engage in practical efforts in the world. Yoric desires to reshape the world in his own image and sees no better means than through the position of Commander-in-Chief. Although, if his vision is unmet from this role, he would not shy away from aiming his sights to the highest authority in the world. Even a coup against the 'stars' atop Mariejois would be acceptable to him, if the need arose.
While he would not admit it directly, this motivation for greater authority and recognition is subconsciously driven (in part) by his desire to create a legend. Yoric recognizes his mortality, but he also recognizes that all those who fear death end up causing their own downfall when trying to avoid it. Instead his desire is nothing less than manifesting his own immortality in his name that he leaves behind- a legacy to survive the march of time.

Fears:

1.)  He fears falling to a premature, insignificant death before realizing his vision.
2.) He fears his fishman heritage being discovered and affecting his reputation, lifestyle and authority.
3.) A cataclysmic shift in the delicate balance of world powers (Marines,Yonkou, Shichibukai), and the resulting chaos which ensues, without being able make any change.
