The Jailbreak (Task/Nuxxon)

Task Title: The Jailbreak
Class Task: C
Task Requirements: 2 Characters (Kurai and Edward), 300 WC per post (with a 3 post minimum (Per person)), needs to escape from the jail before it's eligible for completion.
Task Location: Palatial (or w/e) Island
Task Description: Kurai and Edward meet each other quite awkwardly through jail and get to know each other before planning a jailbreak and hopefully succeeding.

(Wanna note that this takes place before Kurai gets his devil fruit if that's okay.)

"Well....This sucks."

Kurai had just begun his journey of becoming a world renowned, and notorious pirate cook, but boy did it have a rocky start! Not counting the brief brawl with those crooks in Lvneel, and the time he found himself stuck on that frozen island....

The hotheaded cook found himself behind bars here in the merchant island of Palatial. How, and why he ended up like this? It's his temper to blame....yet again.

About one hour earlier, Kurai was walking about in the center of the island, Merchant's Haven with his "brother" Joey. WOAAHH, This place is mighty huge, I reckon!" Joey exclaimed with excitement. The young blond found himself going from market to market, taking in all of the neat little trinkets, and such, annoying some of the owners while getting a laugh out of the others. "Oi, Joey, can you calm down? I can hear your mouth the most out of all these people." Kurai claimed with a cigarette hanging from the side of his mouth. The place was booming with people too which is to be expected from a place like this. Not everyone here were natives to this island, or blue either. Some, if not most came from far, and wide to trade things, to sell things in this glorious place!

But of course, with this many people....trouble is bound to happen.

While running about, Joey accidentally bumped shoulders with a bigger, more muscular fellow. It didn't phase the stranger, but it landed Joey right on his rear. "Ah, gee, sorry about that." Joey apologized, rubbing his butt as he looked up to the guy with an innocent grin. The dude wasn't so forgiving himself however. "Huh?" The muscular dude turned around, looking down at the blond. Before Joey could pick himself up, the dude grabbed him by the back of his collar before elevating him to eye level. "Oh you think you're funny huh, pipsqueak? Tell me one good reason I shouldn't send your ass flying all the way to Black Cat Bay?" The dude looked at Joey intimidatingly while Joey simply blinked a few times in confusion, tilting his head some.

"Drop the boy." said Kurai who walked into the scene, catching both Joey, and the dude's attention. At this point, people were finally noticing what was going on, and most turned their views to the three, some shaking their heads while others encouraged the two to scrap. "Or I'll have to tear you a new asshole." At this point, the annoyed man dropped Joey right back on his butt much to his dismay before stomping over to Kurai. "Guess this place is full of funny people today." the dude said sarcastically with a smirk. "Stick around for a while....See just how funny I can get." Kurai replied with a light chuckle, resting his hands in his pockets which is his fighting stance.

The dude then did something that may have been just as bad as picking on Kurai's brother, or even insulting his food. He grabbed the cigarette straight from Kurai's mouth, dropped it to the ground, and stomped on it, crushing it into the ground slowly while keeping eye contact with the redhead. The dude was snickering, but Kurai had a more....irritated expression written all over his face. "You know, smoking's bad for your heal-" before the guy could even finish, Kurai removed his hands from his pockets, before unleashing a powerful roundhouse house kick which struck the poor fool across the face, and sent him flying back, barely missing multiple people before finally crashing into a market.

After a moment of silence, people started to cheer, not for Kurai in particular, but for the violence that just went down. Joey didn't approve of it however, as he facepalmed himself.

Unfortunately, though not the marines since this place has no affiliation with the World Government, this island still had it's own law enforcers which quickly surrounded the redhead with flintlocks in hand. Kurai glanced left to right before sighing. "Yeah, yeah I know the drill...." he said, dropping down to his knees before holding his hands behind the back of his head, giving his cigarette one more look before sighing again.

And now he's here, on this island's prison for who knows how long....

Kurai sat on one of the beds in his cell while pinching the bridge of his nose. At least his brother wasn't in here with him. Though judging by there being another bed here, it seems this cell is fit to hold another person. Hopefully it will be someone he can tolerate.

The chef then got up from his bed, and walked to the bars, putting his hands on them before yelling,

"HEY! CAN I GET SOME DAMN SMOKES!?"

They might not have been related, but yelling certainly did seem to run through both Kurai, and Joey's veins....

The bars he rocked behind wasn't the only thing he was good at but it was the place where he found himself currently, behind the cold heart of jail bars and concrete walls. He didn't mind it much, even if it was quite the occasion that he had managed to get in here, all he wanted to do was to protect someone after all even if it might not have seemed like it.

The night had a smoky aura in it as he stepped inside of a dimly lit bar two days earlier, quickly walking to a table before having a sweet young miss serve him something that resembles pancakes at the shady bar. As he ate and ate he quickly realized that the people with the table behind his argued a lot, a man and a woman, probably an abusive couple seeing how the man talks down to her more than he could count in his sitting at the creaky bar couch in the corner spots of the bar. "So you're abandoning ME? I'm abandoning YOU! YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?!" the man screeched behind him at the woman before grabbing her by the hair and smashing her entire body down on the floor.

Before he could think about anything, Edward charged into battle quickly grabbing the mans back before throwing him off, the rest of the night was just a simple blur in his small, relaxed mind and that last memory left him with something that he would consider being the worst memory he could have before waking up in prison. He had been assigned a cell with two beds even though the other one was empty seeing how no one had been assorted with being his trusty cellmate yet.

A day passed by, he got to know the place whilst he even got in contact with a few under the rock dealers on the place, granting him a chance to acquire cigarettes which helped his stress of jail quite a bit whilst he tried to learn how to play guitar and got to try being in the kitchen, a place where he usually feels at home but here it just made him feel trapped. For the rest of the day he relaxed in his room before sleeping in again.

On his second day he didn't do a lot other than hang out on the jail yard and played cards before returning for the evening to sleep seeing how yard-time was over and he could return to his cell. As he did he quickly heard someone yell overly aggressively from the direction he was heading.

"HEY! CAN I GET SOME DAMN SMOKES!?"

He moved slowly, walking on his toes one by one as he approached his cell before seeing that it was just a mere mortal man just like him, making him relax quite a bit before the officer escorting him opened up the cell and led the man inside, making him quickly realize that this man was going to be his cellmate. The officer quickly left and Edward laid down on the bed, the moment he saw the officer walking away he quickly pulled up a cigarette and put it in his mouth before snapping his fingers before calling out "Hey man, you asked about smokes, want one?" before the man turned around as Edward flicked one towards his general direction.

Edward quickly after lit his cigarette, took a blow before looking up towards the roof, what was he doing in a place like this?

It's been only an hour since Kurai found himself behind bars, but to him it felt like an eternity. This hasn't been his first rodeo however in jail. While he was in his teens, Kurai was never the upstanding citizen type, as he always found himself succumbing to his temper, and getting into scraps. Didn't help that not only he was once in a gang, but that his late mother had some authority over said gang. Wasn't her fault as she needed to find a way to support both her, and her redheaded son at that time. Especially after his father abandoned them to who knows where.

Kurai stood there at the jail cell with his hands gripping tightly on two of the bars as he looked left, and right. He really did need something to smoke. It helps him mellow out which is something he really needs right about now. Just before he could bark about it some more, Kurai could hear footsteps. He turned his head in that direction to see two people coming. A guard, and what appears to be another inmate. The cook's eyes were focused more on the guard however, hoping that he'd give him what he requested, but much to Kurai's annoyance, he just came to drop that other guy off.

"The hell do you think you're going, buddy!? I swear you better be going to get me a pack!!" Kurai yelled at the guard who was scurrying off. At this point the redhead was pulling against the bars a bit as if he were trying to get out only to stop as he hears the other dude snap his fingers. Kurai almost instinctively turned his head to the guy with a glare. The glare died down however as the man revealed he had cigarettes, offering one to the redhead.

Kurai quietly walked over to the man, and grabbed one. He took one good look at it before lightly grinning. "Shaha, Got a light on ya?" he asked, doing that weird chuckle of his.

Once his smoke was lit if the guy lit it for him, Kurai exhale the smoke out of his mouth, showing signs of being a lot calmer now. The cook made his way to his bed, and sat there, looking at the cell as he took another drag. "What brings you here?" Kurai asked, his eyes still wandering. He awaited the man's response, but also thought to himself. He can't stay here.....he's got shit to do. Plus a brother out there he has to look after who has a habit of.....bumping into people.

The room was dim lit as the jail started to shut it for the night. The two men found themselves in the jail cell as their friendship has started to flower. "Well, was at the right place at the wrong time,
was waiting for someone and instead some guy started brawling up his girlfriend, seeing how I'm the gentleman that I am I went to protect her and this is what it got me..." Edward said as he took the eventual cigarette break from time to time, puffing away at his dreams.

"So, how about you?" Edward said regaining his smile from before after losing it during his conversation, regaining his focus again after losing it looking up towards the ceiling. He quickly looked over towards the man as he had his cigarette hanging from his lips and his hands behind his head as he laid down in the rock filled bed. Thoughts flooded his mind, what his family was doing right now in heaven, what they were up to if there was one that is even if he didn't want to believe that there was an afterlife he still wanted to believe that his family got into it even if he might never make it.

Then he thought some about devil fruits, and to master his art. Maybe it was going to be worth it to get one. Or maybe not. He didn't know if he would encounter one in the near future anyways, or what he wanted to do with his life, did he want to become a bounty hunter? A marine later in his lifetime? A pirate chilling to the bone? He didn't know, the only thing he knew was that he really really really wanted out of here. "And by the way, have you thought about a way to get out of here yet?" Edward said as he sat up on the bed looking straight into the mans eyes.

"How very noble of you." Kurai said almost sarcastically upon listening to the guy's story. Despite how he acted, Kurai would've probably done the same if he were in his position. Seems you hear a lot about these situations these days. People beating on their significant others. Parents abusing their young. All that domestic abuse crap. While young, Kurai would never have gave any of that stuff any attention, thinking only about himself, and his mother. Also thinking about ways he'd slaughter his coward of an old man one day if he found him which is still something he ponders about to this day. Now, it seems, Kurai has gotten a bit softer. Perhaps it's because of the coking....or maybe his brother.

"Hm?" the man turned to the stranger as he thought about what happened to cause him to end up here. Smoke floated to the ceiling from the redhead's cigarette as he rubbed the back of his head. "Some idiot decided to smash one of my cigarettes under his foot, so I decided to smash him under mine...." he claimed casually, looking back at the bars. Although it wasn't completely a lie, he did leave out some things. Like how he really did it to protect Joey. Maybe he thought it would make him look like a softy, or he just wasn't a fan of talking about this sort of stuff?

Who knows.

But now that he mentioned it, he thought of his brother again, worried that he might get himself into some shit that Kurai can't pull him out of. This made his urge to want to get out of here stronger. This isn't his first time in a jail, but he'd usually wait it out, beat up some of the inmates trying to give him trouble to pass the time. But now he had things, and people....well, person to fight for.

The place fell silent as night approached. Only the crickets, and other creatures of the night can be heard at this point. Kurai wasn't much of a fan of small talk so it didn't bother him. Listening to this ambience helped him think better anyway. Then soon the silence was broken by the other guy who raised a very interesting question....

"And by the way, have you thought about a way to get out of here yet?"

Kurai looked back at him with an eyebrow raised. So, he wasn't alone on this....good to know. "We have yet to see any guards come by in a while. The lock to our cell is also easily accessible by just sliding a hand through the bar. The part that sucks is that we need a key, or some kind of substitute.....Which is something I don't freaking have" Kurai answered, his eyes fixing back to the bars as he began to stroke his chin.

"Oh, and probably cameras hanging around." Kurai randomly added in, his tone not really amused. "But who gives a fuck about those? A little bit of attention doesn't hurt once in a while, am I right, shaha?" he shrugged with a light chuckle.

"Shichichichichi, you're right, some attention every once in a while isn't super bad for ego or soul!" Edward said chuckling quite a bit as his eyes closed whilst he giggled away, the smoke of his cigarette gracefully touching the ceiling as it disappeared out of his cell. "I never got your name, mine's Edward, Edward Valentine, nice to meet ya!" he said as he held his hand out and awaited for it to be shaken.

"So, how strong are you? If anything we should be able to dent the bars with our combined strength hopefully, so either we A: dent bars and escape as fast as possible whilst taking down anyone in our path, or B: recruit people from around the prison and organize a nice enough jailbreak out of here. Your choice, I can do either..." Edward quickly said as he took a blow from his cigarette, the kitchen called his name, the seas roared for his soul and he just couldn't take it to sit inside like this any more. He needed to get out, he wanted to see the world and how could he do that when he was stuck right here?

The answer was, he couldn't. He needed to do something with his life, he felt it as an urge from inside of him, yelling out to free this madness. "And by the way, do you have any plans for what to do once you get out of here?" Edward said towards the red-headed man, he looked nice enough even for being so informal and forward about things, if anything he could serve to be a good companion, maybe someone to travel the seas with. Maybe someone to spend his life with in a boat trying to find some ancient treasure, as long as Edward had friends to lift above their potential he was happy enough to be alive and this one might actually just suffice for just that purpose.

This dude isn't half bad! He had already gotten within Kurai's good side by gracing him with a smoke, but to see that he too didn't mind causing a racket to get out of this dump just sealed the deal. The redhead started chuckling some as well. "You're alright." Kurai complimented before the guy introduced himself. Edward Valentine? With a name like that, wouldn't be surprising if this guy were some sort of lady's man, or something, but that wasn't really any of the redhead's business.

"Homura D. Kurai, just call me Kurai." the cook said, taking the cigarette from his mouth, and exhaling smoke. Kurai was never much into introductions, but it felt as if it were needed at this point since the two will be breaking out together. Speaking of, he still needed to find something to pick that damn lock! Or so he thought.

Edward brought up a suggestion that was all the more better than just trying to sneak out. "Pretty sure one good kick from me can do some damage." Kurai claimed with a grin as he got up from his bed with hands in his pockets, standing in front of the door as he awaited Edward. "As much fun as that'd be, I doubt we'd need a freakin riot to get out of here. Let's just hurry up, and get this over with. Anybody trying to stand in our way, just run them over." Kurai said with confidence in his tone as he bent one of his legs, preparing to kick as soon as Edward was ready, he'd unleash a powerful kick towards the bars!

"Shaha, me? Gonna make a damn good feast for me, and my brother for starters. Might be big enough for a third person though." Kurai claimed, subtly inviting the man along once they get out.

And here Kurai thought that this was going to be a boring night.

"I'm not half bad at cooking myself actually, if anything I'll help you out once we get out of here!" Edward said as he sat himself up from the bed before standing up next to Kurai. "I'm excited to meet that brother of yours too, he seems like a nice guy..." Edward quickly said as he backed away from the red head. "I'm ready whenever you are, partner!" he quickly rallied out, awaiting the kick to the bars of the super cheap prison. Not a single guard had walked past in quite the while, he didn't have any good martial arts skills yet even if that was the next part of his studies that he was going to attend to, shame this prison thing came in the way for him though before he could even grasp the basic martial art functions of his books. He could always learn a thing or two from this man seeing how he seems to have this under control by far.

The man looked relaxed, having both of his hands in his pockets with a springy stance before weighing his leg at his side, the moment the impact was going to happen sirens was probably going to pick up, and reinforcements might arrive. As long as they got out of here safely he didn't mind, right now he was useless in a fighting situation but this man wasn't, and if they made it out alive from this place he would have to teach him. "Oh yeah and by the way, wanna teach me some martial arts basics after we get out of here? I need to learn how to defend myself properly to ward off against anyone in the future, I'm training to become the ultimate "jack of all trades", the man of many arts so to speak and that happens to be one of them..." Edward would say as they charged out of the jail cell before awaiting his answers as their shoes rung heavy click-clack noises throughout the corridors as their legs performed better than usual when they ran through the dreaded place.

"Really now?" Kurai questioned with intrigue. At this point it seems that the two inmates have a lot in common. Perhaps fate lead them two to each other for a reason? Though, the cooking stuff had to wait as it's time to get this show on the road! With his hands still in his pockets, Kurai lifted a leg up, and quickly bashed the bottom of his shoe against the bar with the intention of denting it enough for the two to fit through. Instead, the entire thing came down with an audible bang that echoed the empty halls. Appears these bars were older than he thought.

But of course following shortly after was the alarm, filling the entire area with noise. That was their cue to get out of there!

Now sprinting down these halls, other prisoners within their cells started waking up to see what was going on. Some annoyed while others were just plain confused. Soon their eyes caught the two escaping criminals, and now a group of guards chasing them from behind!

"Holy shit, what's with all the noise!?"Yoooo, I think those guys actually broke out!""Some mad balls they got, eh!?""TAKE ME WITH YOU DAMMIT!!!"

Multiple voices could be heard coming from the inmates as they roared, some cheering them on while others just wanted to see blood, or escape as well.

"HALT! WHERE DO YOU TWO THINK YOU'RE GOING!?!"

One of the guards chasing them yelled out as they ran.

"Jack of All Trades? Sounds like you'll have a lot on your plate." Kurai said, panting a bit in between as he ran. "I don't know nothin bout no martial arts, but I sure as hell know how to kick." the redhead claimed. All of this right now was simply exciting to the man. Nothing he has done in the past can ever measure up to engaging in a freaking break out! This certainly was a rush for him! They had no idea where they were going, or at least Kurai didn't, but at the end of this hall appeared to only have one direction, a left turn to who knows where. After making that turn, the redhead would slow down a bit to see a couple more guards, waiting for them with clubs in hand.

But the hotheaded chef met them with a challenging grin. Things just kept on getting interesting it seems!

After a lot of hot headed fighting, running, cutting through walls and shooting through them the duo finally managed to escape, but the whole act didn't come unnoticed, they quickly fled from the prison but remained on the island, they made dinner at some restaurant-like establishment before getting noticed quickly by the local law enforcement where they had been hiding before they barged in with guns in hand. Luckily Edward managed to escape, he didn't think twice about running before harms way came to him and hoped that Kurai would be alright. He ran and he ran, to the outskirts of the marvelous island before finding a rowboat and quickly escaping.

Days later as he was out at sea, no supplies left nor hope he dragged around in the bewildering area of the North blue without anything to save him in sight before a dreaded horn was heard, as he raised himself from the rowboat he saw a ship in the distance, calling his name! It was a pirate ship, but it seemed as if they still had something left of a soul at least. They quickly pulled up and threw him the rope ladder to get him up on deck. For weeks to come he helped them with everything from being the doctor on the ship to a second chef, aiding them with anything he could after they saved his sorry skin. He quickly tried to make up for his debt to them that he thought he had created, but alas they didn't care, they saw him as a brother. For now he wanted to stay on here and learn all the hardships of life, maybe even learn to play an instrument, but for each night that passed the horrid memory of being ambushed and leaving Kurai haunted him for the rest of his days on the ship seeing how the ship reminded him more and more about the incident.
